About the Event

Please join us to help count baby oysters as part of a local restoration project! We have several small cages filled with oyster shells that have oyster spat (baby oysters) attached to them. These baby oysters lived at volunteer sites around Great Bay for 2 months this summer where they grew protected from predators.

We need your help to count and measure oyster spat from these cages to get an idea of how many oysters there are per cage and which ones grew best. Once we collect all the data we need, these oysters will be placed on a carefully chosen restoration area in Great Bay where they can continue to grow and help filter the water in the estuary.

What to bring

We will be working outside by the dock picnic table so be sure to dress accordingly, bring a snack and plenty of water. We’ll supply the gloves, calipers and bug spray and there are bathrooms available inside the building.

Youth Instructions

Youth under 18 are welcome to join if accompanied by an adult.
