About the Event

Join us as we remove invasive dandelions from the alpine zone! Dandelions are not native to the Northeast summits and pose a risk to rare alpine tundra species. As a hub for hikers, who can unknowingly transport dandelion seeds on their boots and gear, the area around Lakes of the Clouds Hut is becoming impacted by a robust dandelion population that may outcompete native species and seed additional alpine dandelion populations. AMC volunteers and staff are partnering with the USFS to protect the alpine zone by digging out as many of these dandelions as possible.

This event will begin at 11:00 am at Lakes of the Clouds Hut on July 7th as long as permitted by alpine weather.

What to bring

Bring comfortable clothes and layers for cold/windy weather. Knee pads and gardening gloves are optional but can make it more comfortable.

Youth Instructions

We will be working in the alpine zone surrounded by delicate plants, so youth volunteers are welcome with dedicated adult supervision.
