About the Event
Join NH State Parks and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests for an end-of-season volunteer trail day at Monadnock State Park.
The Monadnock leaf-off trail challenge focused on getting as many volunteers as possible out across the mountain to clear leaves, sticks, and debris from trail drainage features before winter. Keeping drains open helps water move off the trail instead of down the trail, reducing erosion and helping protect Monadnock’s heavily used trail system.
We're seeking 20 volunteers who are up to the challenge to help cover as many trails as possible in one day.
The day will begin with a welcome, orientation, and basic training at Monadnock State Park Headquarters. After that, volunteers will split into small groups and head out on assigned trails. As each group hikes, they will clear leaves and debris from waterbars, drainages, and other trail features along the way.
No trail work experience is required. This is a good opportunity for new volunteers, families, groups, and anyone interested in learning more about trail stewardship at Mount Monadnock.
Tools and training will be provided by NH State Parks and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
Schedule:
