About the Event
Join us for a unique volunteer adventure! We need helping hands (and strong legs!) to carry two black ash trees out of the forest at Distant Hill. These special trees, also known as basket ash, will be used for both a future ash-pounding workshop and later a basket-making workshop — so you’ll be part of the very first step in the creative basket-making process. What to Expect: Volunteers will work together to carry the trees, as 8 to 10-foot logs, a few hundred feet through the forest. It will involve moderate physical activity, some teamwork, and plenty of fresh air. Expect fresh air, teamwork, and maybe a little laughter as we “haul ash” together.
What to bring
Sturdy shoes or boots (the logs are in a wet forest seep) • Work gloves • Water bottle • Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing
Youth Instructions
Volunteers need to be able to carry heavy loads for some distance. This is not an event for youth volunteers unless they can carry at least 50 pounds or so for a few minutes at a minimum.
