About the Event
The Beaver Brook Association, in coordination with New Hampshire Fish & Game, is seeking volunteers to assist with monitoring a bat colony at Maple Hill Farm. Volunteers will assist BBA staff in conducting colony emergence counts starting 30 minutes before sunset and lasting for about an hour and a half. These counts will help biologists understand population trends and reproductive success of this colony at BBA and for populations across the state. Monitoring these populations is critically important for their conservation due to the occurrence of white nose syndrome, which has decimated bat populations across the Northeast.
What to bring
While counting bats is fun, there are often lots of mosquitoes. Due to this, it is recommended to wear pants, long sleeves, and bug spray. Everything else needed will be provided.
Youth Instructions
Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.
