About the Event
Environmental groups across Massachusetts and Rhode Island are teaming up to remove invasive water chestnut (Trapa natans) from ponds in the Blackstone and Ten Mile River watersheds — and we need your help! Volunteer for a rewarding day on the water or shoreline. No experience is necessary! Volunteers can:
- Paddle kayaks or canoes to hand-pull water chestnut
- Carry and dispose of pulled plants from the shoreline
- Bring your own boat if you can
- Don't have a boat? Contact us in advance to reserve a free canoe or kayak
Water chestnut threatens recreation, wildlife, and water quality. With your help, we can stop its spread and restore balance to our local ponds and rivers.
What to bring
Volunteers should bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate clothing.
