About the Event
Looking for a meaningful way to spend a Sunday outdoors? Step onto the rugged trails of Mount Monadnock and be part of something bigger.
In partnership with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire’s Forests, NH State Parks is offering a hands-on trail maintenance training during Monadnock Trails Week. Guided by professional trail builders, you’ll:
- Learn modern techniques to care for historic trails
- Take a guided hike with tools in hand, observing trail conditions as you ascend. We'll work together to clear and improve the trail on the way down.
- By the end of the day, you’ll not only have new skills but also the opportunity to join the newly revived Monadnock Volunteer Trail Crew, a group with a storied history of keeping these trails open for tens of thousands of visitors each year.
No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to hike about 2.5 miles of rugged terrain and spend 6 hours outdoors with good company. Couples, families, and individuals (ages 16–106) are all welcome. Why give your Sunday to this? Because it’s more than just volunteering. It’s a chance to:
✅ Learn practical trail skills from professionals
✅ Explore Monadnock in a whole new way
✅ Leave a lasting impact on a mountain that inspires thousands
✅ Join a crew that meets just a few times a year to make a huge difference
Spots are limited to only 6 volunteers to keep the experience focused and hands-on. Don’t wait—this is your chance to help care for one of New England’s most iconic mountains and join the Monadnock trail legacy.
