About the Event

AMC's Guyot Campsite, in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, and Hermit Lake Shelters, just below Tuckerman Ravine, are looking for a couple of new Information Volunteers for two weekends each summer. These volunteers engage with day hikers and overnight campers, and assist the caretaker with managing the location. Volunteers give trail advice and share information about trail conditions, weather, and backcountry safety; they check-in campers and orient them to the facility; assist novice campers with setting up tents and using their camp stoves; educate guests about Leave No Trace camping and hiking; and answer questions about the AMC and its mission.

The best fit for a new Info Vol at Guyot Campsite is someone who loves hiking in the White Mountains, has recent backpacking experience, and enjoys talking with other hikers (especially with people who are new to hiking or backpacking in the White Mountains). For Hermit Lake Shelters, the best fit is someone who has recent experience hiking different routes on Mt. Washington and loves talking with Mt. Washington day hikers.

Schedule and Time Commitment: One Information Volunteer assists at each location each weekend in July, August, and Labor Day weekend. The volunteer arrives Friday afternoon/evening and stays through mid-morning on Sunday. Volunteers should be interested in participating in the Information Volunteer program for at least three years.

*Please note the date listed on Nature Groupie is a tentative deadline for expressing interest because the volunteer roster may fill up early. The actual volunteering dates would be in July or August.

To Learn More: Reach out to Kyra Salancy, Volunteer Programs Manager, at amcvolservices@outdoors.org. Some volunteer roles fill up early, so please reach out now (February) if you may be interested.
