Ready to put your citizen scientist skills to use! Want to help expand our knowledge of NH’s biodiversity with the rest of the world? Join TNC for the 2025 City Nature Challenge at select locations around the state!

Visit nature.org/citynature to learn more!

This year, TNC is leading the City Nature Challenge across NH- as a fun and inclusive way to get people outside exploring nature in their own backyards. Started in 2016 for the first-ever Citizen Science Day, the community science teams at National History Museum of Los Angeles and California Academy of Sciences dreamed up the City Nature Challenge as a fun way to capitalize on their home cities’ friendly rivalry and hold an event around urban biodiversity. Flash forward, and it is now a global citizen science event taking place over 4 days every April allowing tens of thousands of citizen scientists to contribute biodiversity counts for their respective cities. Click here is a short video that explains the challenge

From April 25-28th, we encourage all people to take pictures of plants and wildlife through the iNaturalist App! The premise is simple, you download the app, and at any time during the 4-day challenge, get outside and take pictures of any wild plants, animals, insects, and fungi you see. The app also allows users to take sound recordings (like birdsong) for identification. This year, we have designated 4 cities or ‘sites’ across the state participating in the City Nature Challenge. Any observations made in these geographic areas during the challenge dates will be recorded, so we encourage you to visit these locations and you can start by creating a profile in iNaturalist and join any or all of the challenge sites in Manchester, Dover, Nashua, and Carroll County, NH.
