About the Event

Would you like to see the forest for the trees? Join the Forest Society's Volunteer Coordinator, Cameron Larnerd, on this journey to notice, name, and enjoy the trees around us. The hike, which leaves from Monadnock Park H.Q. and trailhead is part educational, part inspirational, and part celebrational as we show appreciation for the Mountain and Region known as Monadnock throughout the 5 days of Monadnock Trails Week.

This event is open to all ages and will focus on appreciating the trees for the forest. Trip leader, Cameron, holds a bachelor’s of science from State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a Society of American Foresters Accredited Program. He will walk you along a 3 mile walk along the Parker Trail on the mountains southern slope. It is 1.5 miles to the Little Mountain viewpoint where everyone can stop for lunch. And then 1.5 miles back to the HQ pavilion. You’ll learn how to identify trees using a variety of characteristics. Plenty of room is built into this walking tour for curiosity and exploration.

DOG POLICY: Sorry, no pets of any kind are allowed at Monadnock State Park.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY: Easy to moderate hike with a roughly 3 mile round-trip distance. Some elevation change, uneven walking surfaces. Some off trail walking will be required to view trees up close.

While the hike is free, advanced event registration is required as well as the regular park entrance fee ($15/vehicle).

What to bring

Please wear comfortable clothes, appropriate for the weather, and sturdy footwear (sneakers, hiking boots). Bring a bag lunch! A water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray are also good ideas!
