About the Event
The Hanover Conservation Commission will be sponsoring an on-site workshop in the Girl Brook Gorge at Pine Park with the eminent ecologist and old-growth expert David Govatski. Some areas of this forest are more than 150 years old and have been noted as one of the ten best examples of old-growth forest in New Hampshire. The Girl Brook Gorge is a beautiful natural area with towering trees, fern-covered slopes, and a dynamic brook channel. Pine Park is a unique protected natural area near downtown Hanover.
We will meet at the pump station parking area off Lyme Road (NH Route 10), ¼ mile north of the light at Park Street, and ½ mile south of the Reservoir Road roundabout. Turn west at the “16-18 Lyme” street sign, and then go left down the hill to the pump station parking area. Please do not park at the golf course maintenance sheds. The walking will be easy on the level Girl Brook trail. This will be a rain-or-shine event, free and open to the public.
