About the Event
Come help us create new planting beds for the demonstration garden at the NH State Forest Nursery! We're creating an easily walkable learning space featuring the native woody shrubs and trees grown by the nursery. The goal is to create small habitats so people can see which plants go with which, in what conditions, so they can know what will work best for their own projects. We'll be doing a bit of cleanup around existing native shrubs and trees, including removal of some invasives. Then we'll be sheet mulching the bed areas with cardboard and wood chip. You'll learn about creating good habitat for wildlife and about some of our NH natives.
What to bring
Dress in layers for whatever weather we get on the day. Closed toe sturdy footwear and work/garden gloves recommended. Sun and bug protection may also be a good idea. Bring your water bottle - we'll have water for refills and light snacks. We'll have some tools to share, but if you have a favorite shovel, heavy rake or pruning tools, bring them along.
Youth Instructions
Over 15 years old with an accompanying adult.
