About the Event

Join Three Rivers Land Trust volunteers for creating a new trail at Pump Box Brook Preserve in Shapleigh. This lovely property was conserved in 2020, and this will be its first trail (through the woods and to the brook!) If you think you can help, please read on for more details.

When and Where?

The parking area is located at the southernmost end of Knox Rd. in Shapleigh, Maine The group will meet at 9:00AM on Saturday, October 8th, at the parking area.

What Needs Doing?

Using loppers and hand-saws to clear brush and branches, we will open up a narrow trail corridor to form the trail, following flags that are already in place. We will also move any woody debris in the way.

So if you think you might want to join us for this workday at Pump Box Brook Preserve, please sign up! Signing up ensures you will hear about any changes to the plan. Thank you, and we'll see you on the trail!

What to bring

Sturdy shoes for off-trail walking, and work gloves. For tools, you can bring loppers and/or a hand-saw (we will have some spares). Please bring a water bottle or other hydration, especially if it's a hot day. Sunblock and bug spray as needed (we will be working in partial shade). Please also dress to protect against ticks - Hansen Pond is known for them. Having pant legs tucked into socks and a shirt tucked into pants is a great first line of defense against ticks, as you have a better chance of seeing them before they get to your skin.

Youth Instructions

This workday is most suitable for volunteers over 12 years of age, as we will be on uneven ground and using tools with sharp edges. Any youth volunteers should be supervised by a parent or guardian.
