Visit a forestry management demonstration area located around a very popular hiking trail on Mt Monadnock that has experienced several decades of continuous careful forest management to improve the residual stand of timber and recruit the next age class of forest. Learn about past, present and future management and how forestry prescriptions have changed the forest while adding value: improving the forest health, resiliency, and timber value. This field trip involves a 2 mile hike with some strenuous elevation gain, partially on the Marlboro Trail at Mount Monadnock and partially some off-trail hiking. Participants should bring water and wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. Hiking poles may be helpful for some. Pre-registration is required for this event.
