About the Event

In partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club & the Appalachian Trail Conservancy - NH State Parks is seeking volunteers to carry cedar logs ~3/4 of a mile into Crawford Notch State Park to a staging area on the Ethan Pond Trail (Appalachian Trail).

Make one trip or do all three. We need all the help we can get.

These 8-foot logs are being installed as steps by the AMC professional trail crew. Every log we can get up to the staging area means another step towards creating a sustainable trail going forward. Will you step up to the challenge?

Multiple shifts available:

  • 9am-11am
  • 11am-1pm
  • 1pm-3pm.

Each shift involves carrying a log up the trail and walking back down.

What to bring

1. A pool-noodle for a shoulder pad. 2. A bottle of water (refill available at the trailhead parking). 3. Sturdy footwear for hiking uphill while carrying a heavy load. 4. Snacks & food for yourself. Weather in the notches of the White Mountains can be more extreme than the rest of the region. Be prepared for cold, wet, or wonderful all at the same time.

Youth Instructions
