About the Event
Are you curious about the different plants, wildlife, insects, and other species that live around you? Join the Nottingham Conservation Commission to explore alongside experts to identify and learn about the species that live in Nottingham! You can come for a guided walk with experts (details below), to explore booths from local organizations or see hands-on presentations on native turtles, raptor, plants, and more.
A BioBlitz is a one-day nature scavenger hunt where people explore alongside scientists and field experts to find as many different plants, wildlife, insects, fungi, and other species on a property as possible. Meet experts, learn more about the natural resources in Nottingham - everyone is welcome!
You’re welcome to come for the whole day or join specific events below.
Event Schedule:
9:00 am - 1:00 pm: Exploration Stations
- Learn more about the Natural Resources in Nottingham through two interactive booths: Water Resources and Aquatic Ecology (explore all things water related – learn about macro-invertebrates, how to test water, see native turtles & a fly tying demonstration) and Land Resources and Terrestrial Ecology (learn more about plants, mosses, mushrooms, lichens and the wildlife species that live in Nottingham)!
- Explore local conservation and community organizations including Nottingham Historical Society, Nottingham Conservation Commission & Trails Committee, Blaisdell Memorial Library, Nottingham Parks & Recreation, Center for Wildlife, NH Turtle Rescue, Open World Explorers
10:00 – 11:00 am: Library Story Hour
11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Tailwinds Raptor Education Presentation
12:00 – 1:00 pm: Center for Wildlife Presentation
There will also be guided walks offered throughout the morning, but registration is required separately for those as space is limited. Click here to learn more & sign up for guided walks.
What to Bring:
Water bottle, long sleeves/pants for bug protection, hat and/or sunscreen, binoculars if you have them, and sturdy footwear. Bring your phone/tablet with iNaturalist app installed (not required). Food will be available to purchase.
Youth Instructions:
This is a family-friendly event. Children are welcome with adult supervision.
