About the Event
The American Chestnut Foundation and Historic New England are partnering to create an educational chestnut orchard on the grounds of the Eustis Estate in Milton Massachusetts. We will be planting 20 seedlings of all different varieties in a field which will become a walking path with interpretive signs. When the seedlings have a chance to grow, we will be designing signs to explain the history of the chestnut tree and restoration efforts which will appeal to children and adults with more information available through QR codes and an audio guide.
We could use your help on Saturday October 5, 2024 from 9am to 3pm. We will be clearing the sod about five feet around each seedling, augering holes for each seedling, enhancing the soil around each seedling, watering, mulching the area and making 4' hardware cloth enclosures.
We will have restrooms available on site and will make sure to have snacks and water for all volunteers. Drop by for an hour, stay the whole day, give words of encouragement, we appreciate any help.
