About the Event
Are you a Boston resident looking to make a difference and advocate for migratory songbirds in your city? If so, a new citizen science project by Mass Audubon called the Avian Collision Team (ACT) is for you!
In the US, up to 1 billion birds are killed annually by building collisions. Mass Audubon is announcing the rollout of the Avian Collision Team to better understand where bird building collisions are occurring in Boston and rescue birds who have survived a window strike.
Volunteers should be willing to commit to participating in an ACT volunteer orientation and between 1-4 weekly window strike/bird rescue survey(s) in Boston, ranging from 1.5-6 hours/week. Over the course of the seven week survey period (April 13th to June 4th) volunteer involvement could range from an overall 12-44 hours depending on your commitment. Attend an information session to learn more and join us to save migratory song birds! Volunteers will be able to select 1-4 weekly survey slot(s) at the training sessions. Survey time slots will include options on Saturdays through Tuesdays at 8 AM from April 13th - June 4th. Trainings are appropriate for adult volunteers only. To learn more about birds and building collisions, check out Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP).
