About the Event

Join SLA AmeriCorps members for a morning of terrestrial invasive plant removal! We will work around SLA's campus to identify and remove invasive plants. Afterwards, you will feel confident identifying and properly removing these plants from other areas in the watershed. Volunteers will also have an opportunity to receive training for our “Invasive Species Spotters” program. This volunteer program allows the Squam Lakes Association to collect important data regarding the presence and distribution of terrestrial invasive species in the watershed.

Here, volunteers will learn how to use their own cell phones to document invasive species while hiking along the SLA’s 50+ miles of trails. The data collected helps the SLA to plan future removal and management efforts. The program utilizes applications called AllTrails and EDDMapS Pro, both of which are free and are available for iPhone and android users. A smartphone can be provided to volunteers if requested. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who enjoys hiking to get involved in conservation of the Squam Lakes Watershed! As always, this work is weather dependent. Should any changes to plans arise, we will provide updates. We encourage help from volunteers who love the outdoors, enjoy hands-on conservation work, and are excited to work with our LRCC AmeriCorps members!

What to bring

Volunteers should bring appropriate clothing, water, sunscreen, and a snack.
