About the Event

The Rocks is a 1,593 acre tree farm in Bethlehem, NH that is owned and managed by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. The farm grows Christmas trees and produces maple syrup, and proceeds from both support the Forest Society's land conservation and stewardship work statewide. We are looking for volunteer assistance to help plant a new crop of seedling xmas trees in early May. This activity involves working in small groups (4-5 people) to hand-plant small trees in pre-drilled holes, and does involve kneeling/getting up and down routinely. The planting fields at the Rocks have beautiful views of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains to inspire while you work!

Workday will run rain or shine 9:30am-3:30pm with time for BYO lunch/breaks. For extremely inclement weather, look for an email the evening before; if we are going to cancel or postpone we'll do it then. NOTE: This work involves getting up/down from a kneeling position repeatedly, but does not involve heavy lifting or shoveling.

COVID19 Safety

Wondering how to make sure you keep yourself and others safe during this time? Nature Groupie has created a quick, free training to help you stay healthy.

What to bring

Volunteers should bring work gloves (we can provide if needed) and a mask (for times when people can't be 6' apart, and we will have disposable masks available). Also please bring a bag lunch and water. Portable toilets are available nearby the planting fields. Please wear sturdy shoes/boots, and dress in layers appropriate for cool spring weather.

Youth Instructions

Youth volunteers 16 & 17 years old may volunteer with parental approval (we will send form). Youth volunteers under 16 may volunteer with a parent or guardian present.
