About the Event

Join us to help count baby oysters as part of a restoration project! We have several small cages filled with oyster shells that have oyster spat (baby oysters) attached to them. These baby oysters lived around Great Bay for 2 months this summer where they thrived and were protected from predators. We need your help to count and measure oyster spat from these cages to get an idea of the numbers of oysters per cage. Eventually, these oysters will be placed on a carefully chosen restoration area in Great Bay.

What to bring

We will be working down on the dock in the sun or on a picnic table under an umbrella so be sure to dress accordingly, bring a snack and plenty of water. We’ll supply the gloves, calipers and bug spray and there are bathrooms available inside the building.

Youth Instructions

Youth under 18 are welcome to join if accompanied by an adult.
