About the Event

Join the Cohos Trail Association for a hands-on backcountry trail day! Clear the trail, explore a remote section, and wrap it up with a tailgate and raffle afterwards.

Head into the North Country for a unique National Trails Day experience with the Cohos Trail Association.

Everyone will meet for 8am at the Dixville Notch State Wayside (parking area for Cascade Brook) and then carpool & caravan out to a remote section of the Kelsey Notch Trail, accessed via dirt logging roads. From there, volunteers will work together to improve the trail by trimming back vegetation and removing blowdowns - helping keep this rugged and scenic route open and passable.

This is more than just trail work, it’s a chance to experience a less-traveled part of New Hampshire, work alongside a dedicated trail community, and contribute to the upkeep of the famous Cohos Trail system.

After the work wraps up, stick around for a tailgate gathering and raffle, a great way to relax, connect, and celebrate the day’s accomplishments.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • A more remote, backcountry-style experience
  • Group travel (caravan) to the trailhead via dirt roads
  • Moderate physical activity (walking uneven terrain, cutting and clearing vegetation, moving debris)
  • Use of hand tools like loppers and handsaws
  • A fun post-work tailgate and raffle

As part of National Trails Day, you’ll be joining volunteers across the country working to maintain and protect trails—all while having a memorable day outdoors.
