About the Event

Do you recreate on the Mt. Agamenticus trails? Mount Agamenticus is looking for volunteers to help maintain trails and report trail needs through its Adopt-a-Trail program, where volunteers can take responsibility for regular maintenance on a trail. This training is provided for all Trail Adopters to ensure they are confident to perform their work in a safe and effective manner and that the work is in line with management objectives for that trail or trail section.  Interested volunteers will need to choose preferred trails for adopting, commit to one year of trail adoption and attend the Trail Maintenance for Volunteers mini-workshop.  What's involved? Check out the 4 Golden Tasks of Being a Good Trail Adapter:
  1. Cleaning out existing drainage structures on the trail of leaves, dirt, rocks and branches.
  2. Remove branches that overhang the trail and downed branches and small trees (following pruning protocol agreed to in workshop)
  3. Pickup and Remove trash from the trail
  4. Report major problems on the trail such as large down tree blocking trail, erosion problem on trail or wet and large mud pit in middle of trail.
Interested adopters will need to perform these necessary tasks a minimum of three times a year, depending upon the needs of the trail. Once in the Spring, Summer & Fall are preferred. Volunteers will also need to submit an online work report after each work trip. While on the trail, volunteers will be trail ambassadors by engaging with hikers to discuss your work on the trails and how to get involved. Youth are welcome, but parents must accompany youth volunteers for duration of training and on volunteer projects.

What to bring

Please bring your hiking/work boots, water bottle and work gloves. Tools will be provided but feel free to bring your own shovel, loppers and/or handsaw from home.

Youth Instructions
