About the Event
Join Essex County Greenbelt for an opportunity to get your hands dirty and learn about maintaining woodland single track trails! This project will focus on trail maintenance ahead of the public opening of Greenbelt's DeNormandie Woods property in Manchester at the end of September. This 330 acre addition is part of a continuous conserved area of over 1,400 acres of Cape Ann woods.
Volunteers will hike the trails with loppers, folding saws, and other hand tools to clear overhanging branches, clear lines of sight between trail blazes, and perform other trail maintenance work as needed.
Please bring your own loppers, folding saw, and gloves if you have them. If you do not, Greenbelt will provide all necessary equipment. Volunteers for this project must be comfortable working in the field. The project includes a challenging trail hike and there are no restrooms on site. We are targeting trail areas deep in the property. Expect to walk 3-4 miles during the project.
If you haven't visited DeNormandie yet, the property is worth the trip! DeNormandie Woods feels very remote and features dramatic glacial erratics.
Thanks for helping us prep these trails for our unveiling this month! Final details will be confirmed by email the week of the project.
