About the Event

Starting in 2016, VT/NH Chapter volunteers of the American Chestnut Foundation started an American chestnut demonstration planting at the NH Audubon's McLane Center in Concord, NH. Over the years, the patch cut where the trees were planted has regrown and many of the trees that were planted are no longer visible from the main trail that goes by them. We could use some volunteers to help us create a short footpath into the heart of the planting on Saturday morning, June 13th from 8 to 10 AM. Work will include clearing brushy vegetation, lifting and moving some longer pieces of previously cut wood, and planting some new potentially blight-resistant nuts. For those interested, there will also be a presentation on the Restoration of the American Chestnut sponsored by NH Audubon at the McLane Center later that morning at 11:00 AM. The presentation will be followed by a short hike around the property to locate surviving wild American chestnut sprouts, ending at the demonstration planting.

What to bring

Bring work gloves, water, maybe a rake or pruners if available. And of course, protection from the sun and ticks.
