About the Event

Everyone who cares about the environment knows what a bummer invasive plants can be. We know that they outcompete native plants for resources allowing them to flourish. This can have a detrimental effect on wildlife because their sources of food, cover and host plants may not be readily available, leading to a decline in those wildlife populations. But what to do about all these invasive plants? Should I pull them or will that make things worse? Should I use herbicide or is that too dangerous? Should I just cut them down every year? UGH - it’s so confusing!

Well, there’s a solution! If you want to learn more about invasive plants, how to identify them and mitigate them from your property, join the Atkinson Conservation Commission as we host 2 sessions about these miserable plants! The first session will be a presentation held at Kimball Library on April 14, 2025 at 6:00pm which will discuss several invasives in detail. The following session will be determined at a later date and held in Atkinson, NH. The field session will allow us to get hands on with some invasives and perfect our identification skills. We’ll also learn about various forms of mitigation for specific invasives.

This program is free and open to everyone. You need not attend both sessions, but registration is required. If you have questions about conservation related issues or would like to volunteer, please contact the Atkinson Conservation Commission
