About the Event
Join volunteers on the beautiful Marginal Way to pick seed pods of highly invasive Black swallowwort. Your efforts will help save native plants and protect Monarch butterflies. No experiences needed. Everyone works in teams led by experienced pod pickers who will show you how to identify swallowwort. It is critical to collect the seed pods before they open in September and the seed parachutes float on the wind spreading into new areas. Spectacular scenery and a rewarding experience.
What to bring
Hat, work gloves, hand clippers if you have them. Even in summer, long sleeves & long pants recommended - you may be in heavy brush (there may also be poison ivy in a few spots). We provide water, snacks, and have extra gloves, some clippers.
Youth Instructions
Young volunteers (12 years & up) are welcome, accompanied by parents or teachers.
