About the Event

The Forest Society is celebrating Earth Day and a healthy planet by empowering our visitors and locals to give a little love to the mountain and lakes by helping in spring clean-up effort. Join our staff and members of our volunteer Forest Society Conservation Corps for a DIY cleanup hike.

We all have the best intentions, but sometimes we leave behind litter, forget a bag of dog poop, or our lunch bag blows away in the wind. When over 50,000 people visit Mt Major each year, a little bit here and there can really add up! Take the DIY Trail Trash Challenge and give a little love for the mountain, the lakes, and the wildlife that calls this area home.

All you have to do is: Take a hike! Along the way, spend some time looking for litter and trash that has collected along the bushed and the sides of the trail. When you get back to the parking lot, take a look around for stuff that may have been left behind or fallen out of people's cars. Tie off your bag, and toss it in the back of the Forest Society truck.

This is a DIY Challenge - No Registration Required.

Just Hike Your Own Hike, and do a little work on your way!

The event will take place from 9am - 2pm, but there is no need to stay the whole time - create your own adventure!

What to bring

Bring you own bag, or use one of ours - they'll be provided in the parking lot. Please bring your own daypack, water bottle, work gloves, appropriate footwear, and layers. We will also provide nitrile gloves for the yucky stuff!

Youth Instructions

Volunteers under the age of 16 are welcome to attend this event, but need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian while in attendance.
