About the Event
AMC's Guyot Campsite, in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, is looking for new Information Volunteers to assist the campsite caretaker on busy weekends in the summer. Volunteers check-in campers and orient them to the facility; give trail advice and share information about trail conditions, weather, and backcountry safety; assist novice campers with setting up tents and using their camp stoves; educate guests about Leave No Trace camping and hiking; and answer questions about the AMC and its mission.
Essential qualifications: experience backpacking in the White Mountains and an outgoing, friendly personality. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, be an AMC member (new members welcome!), and pass a criminal background check.
Schedule and Time Commitment: One Information Volunteer assists at Guyot Campsite each weekend in July, August, and Labor Day weekend. The volunteer arrives Friday afternoon/evening and stays through mid-morning on Sunday. The volunteer can take a long break on Saturday for about 5 hours -- plenty of time to visit a couple of the nearby 4,000-footer peaks with fantastic views! Volunteers commit to volunteering two weekends each summer.
*Please note the date listed on Nature Groupie is a tentative deadline for expressing interest because the volunteer roster may fill up early. The actual volunteering dates would be in July or August.
Training: Training includes an in-person training at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Saturday, June 3rd, as well as a couple of online evening sessions in May/June. Online trainings are recorded for anyone with a schedule conflict.
Some volunteer roles fill up early, so please reach out now if you are interested.
